adidas bullish on Indian market despite fluctuating import duty rates

NEW DELHI: German sportswear giant adidas on Tuesday pointed out unstable import duty rates that too without warning on most occasions in India as one of the biggest obstacles for the company when it comes to its operations and future investment planning, Press Trust of India reports.

The MNC sells both locally-sources and imported products in India. However, adidas India’s MD, Dave Thomas believes that bringing more imported ones were a must for adidas to showcase its ‘full story to India’, something which he feels consumers deserve.

Nike downsizes India ops

NRAI petitions fin min for GST relief on sports goods
NEW DELHI: National Rifle Association of India (NRAI)  president Raninder Singh has written to the finance ministry asking for a review of imposition of GST on sports equipment. Shooters in the country say they have been hit hard by the Goods and Services Tax, which envisages a 18 to 28 per cent tax on air guns, pistols, and accessories of the sport, most of which needs to be imported.

MUMBAI: In a move designed to scale up its outreach in India’s fast growing retail entertainment space, Smaaash Entertainment, co-owned  by Shripal Morakhia and Sachin Tendulkar has acquired 100 per cent stake in bluO entertainment, a premium bowling and entertainment format operated by PVR. While financial details were not divulged, Economic Times reports that the purchase price was Rs860 million.
