Broadcast Rights

The Walt Disney Company is expecting International Cricket Council (ICC) digital rights, which is held by Disney+ Hotstar, to cuase losses in its streaming business in Q3. 

"We are forecasting a loss for entertainment direct to consumer (DTC) in the third quarter, the vast majority of which is due to Disney+ Hotstar's ICC cricket rights," Walt Disney CFO Hugh Johnston told analysts during the earnings call for the March quarter.

He added Disney+'s core subscriber growth is not expected to be significant in Q3, but sub-growth is anticipated to return in Q4.

LONDON: talkSPORT has won the cricket audio rights for England's major upcoming overseas tours. It is the first time BBC Five Live’s Test Match Special programme has lost the rights for an England away tour to a commercial broadcaster since 2005.  The free to air rights cover England's tours of Sri Lanka and the West Indies including all the Test matches, ODIs and T20 internationals from each tour.

MELBOURNE: Cricket Australia Friday sealed a new six-year broadcast and digital agreement worth A$1.182 billion ($920 million) that also broke Channel Nine's four-decade stranglehold of CA television rights. The new agreement signed with Fox Sports and Seven West Media is an increase on the current rights value where CA receives up to A$600 million from its existing five-year deal.

MUMBAI: Star India is now officially the one-stop shop for all big-ticket cricket played in India after the 21st Century Fox subsidiary retained its hold on BCCI rights for the next five years with a winning bid of Rs 61.381 billion.  Star's bid for the global consolidated rights to Indian cricket amounts to an average per match value of Rs 601.77 million for the 102-game BCCI FTP for the period 2018-2023.
