NEW DELHI: The most powerful cricket body in the world has yet again been forced to eat humble pie after falling at the wrong end of the stick on the legal front. Needless to say, it is a seriously expensive pie. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly ready to cough up compensation of over Rs8 billion to IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala for terminating its contract in 2011, a massive mark-up on the Rs3 billion the team's promoters were initially willing to settle for.

NEW DELHI: Even as Australia on Tuesday suspended all direct passenger flights from India with immediate effect until May 15 due to the “very significant” spike in COVID-19 cases, the BCCI assured foreign players it would do everything to ensure those competing in the IPL reach their respective countries seamlessly once the tournament ends.

MUMBAI: The Indian Premier League is very much on, the BCCI insisted Monday, even as leading Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and three Australian players announced their withdrawal from the IPL amid the escalating COVID-19 crisis in India. "As of now, IPL is going ahead. Obviously, if anyone wants to leave, that's perfectly fine," a senior Board official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

MUMBAI: Media will not be allowed to cover the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) directly from the venues due to the worrying upsurge in COVID-19 cases across the country but if the situation improves the restriction will be lifted, the BCCI announced on Thursday. The IPL is in any case out of bounds for fans and will be held behind closed doors.
