NEW DELHI: The most powerful cricket body in the world has yet again been forced to eat humble pie after falling at the wrong end of the stick on the legal front. Needless to say, it is a seriously expensive pie. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly ready to cough up compensation of over Rs8 billion to IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala for terminating its contract in 2011, a massive mark-up on the Rs3 billion the team's promoters were initially willing to settle for.

The world's biggest annual cricket event will be staged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the matches will be played in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi subject to necessary clearances from the Union government.

CHENNAI: With the latest government order from the Centre prohibiting sporting events in August, the Tamil Nadu Premier League’s (TNPL) last hope of running the fifth edition has all but ended, Sportstar reports. The TNPL was originally supposed to have been held between June 10 and July 12 before it was postponed because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

MUMBAI: It was on July 24 that ESPNcricinfo broke the news that the BCCI had homed in on September 19 to November 8 or 10 as the dates for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League. Subsequently, IPL governing council chairman Brijesh Patel went public and on record that the cash awash league would kick off on Saturday, September 19, with the final to be played on Sunday, November 8.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Premier League Governing Council will meet on August 2 to finalise the schedule and other key arrangements for the tournament, which is now to be held in the UAE. "We are having the governing council meeting on 2nd of August and major issues related to the league will be discussed in this meeting," a BCCI source told ANI.
