Oman to host first-ever FIH Hockey5s World Cup
LAUSANNE: Oman's capital Muscat will host the inaugural FIH Hockey5s World Cups (Men and Women) to be held in January of 2024, the International Hockey Federation announced Thursday.  Oman won the bid to host the event by getting 13 votes out of a total of 16 and beating six other bidders.

Mohali intl hockey stadium renamed after Balbir Singh Senior
MOHALI: The Punjab government declared on Tuesday that the Mohali International Hockey Stadium, Sector 63, would be renamed after triple Olympian and Padma Shri Balbir Singh Sr. The stadium will now be known as Olympian Balbir Singh Senior International Hockey Stadium.  The decision comes a year after the proposal got in-principal approval from the state government.

Batra wins re-election as FIH president after tight vote
LAUSANNE: In the closest of votes, Narinder Batra has been re-elected as president of the FIH for a second four-year term.  Of the 124 votes submitted by member national associations, Batra attained the required absolute majority of more than half the votes, receiving 63 votes to the 61 given to Marc Coudron of Belgium. Batra will hold the position until 2024.

NEW DELHI: Indian men's hockey team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh has been re-elected to the FIH athletes committee for a second term.  The announcement of the appointment was made during a virtual meeting of the FIH executive board on Thursday.

Covid claims 2 India hockey Olympic Gold medal winners
NEW DELHI: Two members of India’s last Olympic Gold medal-winning hockey team in Moscow 1980, Ravindra Pal Singh and Maharaj Krishan Kaushik, died from coronavirus on Saturday. While 66-year-old MK Kaushik passed away in the capital, 62-year-old Ravinder Pal Singh passed away in Lucknow.

India’s FIH Pro League away matches postponed
NEW DELHI: India’s upcoming FIH Hockey Pro League away matches against Spain and Germany, scheduled for May 15-16 and 22-23 respectively, have been postponed.  This is due to the current international travel restrictions affecting India due to sudden rise in Covid-19 cases. Team India’s away matches against Great Britain were postponed in April.

India to begin Hockey Pro League 2021-22 campaign against NZ
BENGALURU: Indian Men's Hockey Team Skipper Manpreet Singh expressed his team's excitement over taking on New Zealand followed by Australia in away-games when they begin their campaign in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2021-22, India's second outing in the prestigious global league. The FIH announced the schedule for the 2021-22 season on Friday.
