If last year's elections for the Wrestling Federation of India's executive council was all about proxy candidates whose main claim to fame was absolute loyalty to the WFI's former president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the upcoming Lok Sabha elections for the Kaiserganj seat in Uttar Pradesh follows an identical template.   

The Bharatiya Janata Party is fielding Karan Bhushan Singh, son of the sitting MP Brij Bhushan. It is worth noting that Karan was last year anointed by his father as his replacement for presidentship of the Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association.

LONDON: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Thursday confirmed a further delay to the start of the professional domestic cricket season, with no domestic cricket to be played before 1 August. The specifics of the season remain subject to ongoing advice from UK government and health experts, but the ambition remains to host domestic men's and women's cricket across England and Wales later this summer.

NEW DELHI: Football Delhi has announced plans to launch an annual tournament from 2021, which the national capital's football governing body envisions will have I-League and Indian Super League clubs participating. Football Delhi will take the request regarding the Capital Cup to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to look for an appropriate window to hold the tournament in Delhi.

BOSTON: The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has announced that the 124th Boston Marathon will be held as a virtual event, following Boston Mayor Martin Walsh’s cancellation of the marathon as a mass participation road running event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The virtual Boston Marathon will be complemented by a series of virtual events throughout the second week of September.

LONDON: Premier League shareholders Thursday agreed to a new provisional restart date for the 2019/20 season of Wednesday 17 June, provided that all safety requirements are in place. Aston Villa v Sheffield United and Manchester City v Arsenal, postponed due to the Carabao Cup final, will now take place on 17 June, followed by a full match round beginning on Friday 19 June.
