MUMBAI: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has declared that the state government will start a dedicated modern sports academy in partnership with the central government to train sportspersons from the police department so that they can compete at national and global levels, Press Trust of India reports.

Fadnavis was speaking at the opening ceremony of '31st Maharashtra State Police Sports competition' here. The CM said that state government seriously stands behind the police department and its welfare related to housing and education of their children among other things.

MUMBAI: In a significant development, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, backed by IOA president Narindra Batra and International Olympic Committee member Nita Ambani, has informed IOC president Thomas Bach that Mumbai would be put forth as a candidate city to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2026 and 2032 Olympics.
