Ultimate Table Tennis shot in the arm for Indian players

MUMBAI: The recently concluded first edition of the Ultimate Table Tennis league has drawn appreciation for Indian players from coaches who trained the various teams.

The country's first table tennis league concluded on 30 July and saw some inspired performances by the Indians.

Foreign coach of the RPG-SG Mavericks told the Deccan Chronicle, “I am really thrilled to see many of the Indian players progress so well though some of them are beating players from my team.”

Indian coach of finalists Shaze Challengers Arup Basak was quoted as saying that this was the best opportunity for our Indian women to learn as much because "rarely do our girls ever get to train against best defensive players".

While rating the debut edition of the Ultimate Table Tennis as being on par with the foreign leagues, Challengers’ foreign coach Elena Timina said that it was commendable that the organisers "put in a lot of thought behind the kind of player pool which was critical".

National coach Sanil Shetty was quoted in the report as saying that Indian players would now take part in the Czech Open and Bulgaria Open after the national ranking tournament in Delhi.
