KOLKATA: Real Kashmir FC (RKFC) won the IFA Shield, defeating George Telegraph 2-1 in the final, at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday.

Lukman Adefemi (38th minute) and Mason Robertson (60th) scored for the winners. Gautam Das found the target for George Telegraph.

It was a hard-fought victory for the David Robertson-coached I-League side.

RKFC’s Nigerian striker Lukman, who scored a hat-trick against Mohammedan Sporting in the semi-final, opened the scoring from a spot-kick.

KOLKATA: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has given the green signal for a historic match between legendary yesteryear players of I-League heavyweights, Mohun Bagan and La Liga champions Barcelona in the city on 28 September, Indian Express reports. It is likely to hand over Bagan the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the same on Monday, according to the club’s secretary Anjan Mitra.

KOLKATA: FIFA president Gianni Infantino has thanked West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee for successfully organising the matches at various stages and the final of the Under-17 World Cup last month.  In a letter from FIFA headquarters in Zurich,  Infantino also praised Banerjee for the way tournament matches were hosted at the Salt Lake Stadium, including the final.

KOLKATA: The last minute shifting of Wednesday's Brazil-England Under-17 FIFA World Cup semi-final tie from Guwahati to Kolkata saw over 150,000 soccer fans registering online on the FIFA website on Monday evening. The venue had to be shifted due to the poor condition of the playing field at Guwahati's Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium following heavy rains over the past few days.
