MUNICH: Germany is set to become the first of Europe’s top five football leagues to make its return after German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the heads of the German federal states decided Wednesday that the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 seasons can resume from mid-May. 

The 36 clubs will hold a conference call on Thursday to finalise a resumption date.

Clubs in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 have been back in training since last month with a view to restarting the 2019-20 season this month.

MUNICH: Nearly six weeks after winning the bid against Turkey for hosting the Euro 2024 championships, Germany has now set its sights on the UEFA Champions League 2021 final. UEFA has received their ‘declaration of interest’ as the DFB, the governing body of German football, has named Munich as the candidate city.

LONDON: Formula 1 is all set to submit their newly-released draft calendar of the 2019 World Championship season to the FIA for approval. The governing body of world motorsport will finalize it in a special council meeting on 12 October this year. For the third time in history, F1 will feature 21 Grand Prix races with 11 of them taking place in Europe, 5 in Asia, 4 in the Americas and 1 in Australia.

BERLIN: Germany is contesting for the hosting rights of the UEFA Euro 2024 Championships and DFB, the governing body of German football, has announced its nomination of FIFA World Cup 2014 winning skipper Philipp Lahm as tournament director.  The winner of the rights will be declared by UEFA on September 27 at an event in Nyon, Switzerland.
