NEW DELHI: The 19th edition of the Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya - billed as one of the toughest off-road motor rallies in the world - gets underway on October 8 with over 125 motorists registered. The six-day event stretches across 2,400 km on some of the toughest and highest motorable roads in the world and the rallyists will have to cover 300 to 350 kilometres in a day on average.

NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry plans to put in new guidelines in place for the selection of athletes for national sports awards. Criteria for selection will be revised so that un-nominated athletes could also be considered for honours like the Arjuna awards.

FRANKFURT: Porsche Friday revealed plans for a factory-backed works team to compete in the all-electric FIA Formula E Championship from the 2019/20 season.  As part of a new strategy and realignment of Porsche’s existing motorsport programme, the German manufacturer declared it would be ending its involvement in the LMP1 class of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at the end of the 2017 season.

LONDON: Motor racing's Sauber have parted company with Monisha Kaltenborn, the first woman to run a Formula One team, with immediate effect ahead of this weekend's Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Kaltenborn has been team boss of Sauber since 2012, when she was given the role by founder Peter Sauber.
