Leaders Keep control of the game

Pier Luigi Collina, former Italian and FIFA referee, will be addressing 1000 senior delegates attending the 4th Leaders in Football conference taking place at Chelsea FC, London on 5th and 6th October 2011.

Regarded as one of the great referees of the modern era, Collina is an iconic figure in the sporting world heralded for his outstanding ability as a match official. After only 3 seasons, he progressed to officiating Serie A matches and subsequently became the most recognised face of football refereeing. His career highlights include the 1999 UEFA Champions League final, 2004 UEFA Cup final, and the pinnacle of his professional occupation, the 2002 FIFA World Cup final.

With modern day officials under the intense scrutiny of fans, managers and the media, the decisions they make play an increasingly critical element within games, given the proliferation of betting on the sport and the risk of corruption. Collina will be heading a discussion on the importance of refereeing in the current game in a session titled ‘Men in Black: Blowing the whistle on football decisions’.

Collina will be joining a long list of other high profile speakers including FIFA Executive Committee members, Dr Michel D’Hooghe and Jim Boyce; Chairman of Chelsea FC, Bruce Buck; the independent Chairman of The Football Association, David Bernstein; former Prime Minister of Belgium and now Chairman of the UEFA Financial Fair Play Panel, Jean-Luc Dehaene; Owner of Stoke City FC and Bet 365, Peter Coates; Chairman of Sunderland AFC, Niall Quinn; and Chairman of the Football League Greg Clarke.

Leaders in Football takes place within the Leaders Sports Summit, consisting of 5 leading conferences for Sponsorship, Digital Sport, Performance and the business of Horse Racing, over 5th and 6th October at Chelsea FC.
