COLOMBO: Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) has bagged the rights to broadcast the inaugural edition of the Lankan Premier League (LPL) T20 tournament, set to kick off later this month. 

In response to a question raised on Twitter, Sony Pictures Sports Network India (SPSN) confirmed that it will be broadcasting the tournament on its channel, Sri Lanka's Newswire reports.

For the record, SPN holds the media rights for South Asia (excluding Sri Lanka) to international cricket played in the island nation.

MUMBAI: After its efforts to launch a Twenty20 tournament in Augist 2020 failed to take off, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) reportedly sees a fresh opportunity at a time when neigbouring India is coming up short in its efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.  SLC is looking at hosting the Lankan Premier League in August with five teams competing over three weeks for top honours, ESPNCricinfo reports.
