NEW DELHI: The most powerful cricket body in the world has yet again been forced to eat humble pie after falling at the wrong end of the stick on the legal front. Needless to say, it is a seriously expensive pie. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly ready to cough up compensation of over Rs8 billion to IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala for terminating its contract in 2011, a massive mark-up on the Rs3 billion the team's promoters were initially willing to settle for.

Ahead of the start of 17th edition of the Indian Premier League, host broadcaster Star Sports has onboarded 15 sponsors and counting for world cricket's biggest annual jamboree.  IPL digital streaming rights holder JioCinema had Thursday reported a record number of 18 sponsors and over 250 advertisers for the upcoming season.

Mumbai Indians announced Friday that the RIL-owned Indian Premier League franchise had achieved its most successful commercial year in the IPL's 17-year history.  The team has added 12 new brands to their sponsorship roster, bringing the total to 26 brands, including 11 international and 15 domestic brands.
