MUMBAI: Even as Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday announced tough restrictions for the next 15 days that include a ban on gatherings and only essential activities to break the chain of COVID infections, it will not affect the Indian Premier League games scheduled to be held at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

"No effect on Mumbai matches as we have special permission, everything will go ahead as planned and we will take all necessary precautions,” a highly-placed source told news agency ANI.

MUMBAI: Close on the heels of 10 members of the ground staff team at the Wankhede Stadium testing positive for COVID-19, Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik on Monday co0nfirmed that permission has been granted for the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches in the city, but with restrictions.  Malik said that matches will be played behind closed doors and only relays will be allowed.

MUMBAI: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has communicated to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), requesting it to swap the first T20I between India and West Indies — scheduled to be held at the Wankhede Stadium on December 6 — with Hyderabad, the venue for the third T20I on December 11.

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government has demanded Rs 1.2 billion from the Wankhede Stadium here for the renewal of its lease, the state Assembly was informed Friday,PTI reports. The stadium is owned by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). It also houses the headquarters of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government has issued notice to the Mumbai Cricket Association to pay Rs 1.2 billion as lease renewal, unpaid dues, and illegal alterations on the plot that houses the Wankhede Stadium and BCCI headquarters, failing which the MCA might have to vacate the stadium premises.
