Universal Music joins hands with eSports company

COLOGNE: The Central European division of Universal Music Group (UMG) have announced a multi-year partnership with ESL Gaming, the world’s biggest eSports company that will be managed out of UMG’s Berlin headquarters.

The aim of the agreement is to exclusively help Universal discover and promote new artists through ESL’s global tournaments and channels. In an industry first, UMG will partner with ESL to create the ultimate destination for gaming and music fans alike to experience the official soundtrack of the world’s esports leagues and tournaments.

MPL to slash headcount by 350 to survive tax impact
BENGALURU: Indian gaming app Mobile Premier League will lay off 350 employees as it takes steps to "survive" a tax imposed by the Indian government on online gaming companies, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters on Tuesday. The move comes on the back of the government's decision last month to impose a 28% tax on funds that online gaming companies collect from customers, a Reuters report said.

GST hike for igaming industry, not esports, video games
