June 22: The Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 (Tokyo 2020) has published its final financial report detailing its revenues and expenditures, which were balanced, and the overall financial results of the Tokyo 2020 Games.

Thanks to the efforts made to increase revenues and continuously review expenditures, Tokyo 2020 achieved a balanced budget of JPY 640.4 billion ($5.8 billion*).

TOKYO: Japan will stage the Tokyo Olympics under a state of emergency and there will be no spectators at any of the games’ venues in the capital due to a resurgence of COVID-19 cases. However, in the event of a significant change in the state of infection, a Five-Party Meeting will be convened immediately to review the spectator capacity.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Association announced Monday that 6-time world champion boxer MC Mary Kom and men's hockey team skipper Manpreet Singh will be India's flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics, while star wrestler Bajrang Punia will be the flag bearer at the closing ceremony on July 8. 2008 Olympics Gold medallist Abhinav Bindra was India's flagbearer at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

LAUSANNE: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is loosening its restrictions on protests and rules against "athlete expression" for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.  Participants at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics will have more opportunities for expressing themselves but would be disqualified or stripped of medals if they engage in social activism in areas and manners other than those permitted.

NEW DELHI: Anirban Lahiri has earned a berth to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as he was placed 60th in the Final Olympic Golf Rankings list which was published today. Lahiri, a former Asia No. 1 and two-time winner on the European Tour, will thus be playing his second successive Olympic Games. Anirban, a PGA Tour regular, had previously turned out for India along with SSP Chawrasia at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

TOKYO: Today, on 21 June, the five parties, namely the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) and the Government of Japan (GoJ), met to discuss spectator limits for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The IOC and IPC were informed about and support the policies the three Japanese parties have decided on.

NEW DELHI: Ajay Singh, principal promoter of SpiceJet and president, Boxing Federation of India, has confirmed to the the Indian Olympic Association that his budget airline would arrange a special flight to Tokyo on 17th July after two airlines cancelled their flights scheduled for 17th & 18th July, in which 81 Indian athletes and officials were booked to fly.
