PUNE: The Maharashtra government has announced it will set up the state's first world-class international sports university in Pune and it will be functional from the 2021-2022 academic year.

State Sports Minister Sunil Kedar, who made the announcement here Thursday, said that the university will be the centre of sports excellence in the country that will pick and train sportspersons of international calibre.

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra cabinet on Wednesday approved a draft bill for the constitution of an international sports university, an official statement said. The state government had announced in the budget that such a university would be set up. The bill will be introduced in the Winter Session of the State Legislature next week, said a statement from Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's office.
