TV rights auction

NOW THIS DID NOT age well at all. But surprised we are most definitely not! Just a day after yet another headline cropped up (many such have appeared over the last few months) on an impending face-off between Jeff Bezos and Mukesh Ambani over ownership of media rights for world cricket's most valuable property - the Indian Premier League - it can finally be laid to rest. 

Two days ahead of the e-auction of IPL television and digital broadcast rights, came confirmation, Friday, 10th June, that US tech behemoth Amazon will NOT be in the bidding race.

MUNICH: Despite challenging external conditions, the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga has again exceeded the one billion euro threshold in the tender of its German-language media rights. The clubs can expect an average income of €1.1 billion for the 2021-22 to 2024-25 seasons. This corresponds to a total revenue generation of €4.4 billion.

LONDON: The Premier League will reportedly make 200 games available in its next TV rights auction - 42 more than in the current rights cycle - as the world's most popular football league targets an massive increase on the already huge $6.7 billion deal it secured last time round.
