Oman to host first-ever FIH Hockey5s World Cup

LAUSANNE: Oman's capital Muscat will host the inaugural FIH Hockey5s World Cups (Men and Women) to be held in January of 2024, the International Hockey Federation announced Thursday. 

Oman won the bid to host the event by getting 13 votes out of a total of 16 and beating six other bidders.

The Hockey5s’ flagship event is a new FIH competition. 16 teams per gender (3 per continent + Oman, as hosts) will take part in the first edition.

FIH had also received bids from India, Pakistan and Singapore to host this event.

MUSCAT: The Asian Champions Trophy 2018 will be hosted by the Oman Hockey Association in Muscat between October 18 and 28, the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) has confirmed. Oman is holding the event for the first time. Introduced in 2011, India won the inaugural Men’s Asian Champions Trophy.

MUSCAT: The Oman Hockey Association (OHA) is likely to host the Asian Champions Trophy hockey in October, a local daily reports. The tournament, organised by the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF), features the best six teams of the continent and Oman is likely to be part of the 2018 edition as a host nation, according to the Muscat Daily.
