After drawing IOC flak, IOA to move on CEO appointment

The Indian Olympic Association, which has been dragging its feet for more than a year on the International Olympic Committee's demand that it appoint a professional chief executive, will finally re-initiate the hiring process after being called out by the IOC. 

The IOA executive council, which met in Mumbai on Tuesday, decided to issue a new advertisement for the post. The CEO will be an ex-officio member of the IOA executive council without voting rights.

Batra elected IOA president unopposed
NEW DELHI: Narinder Batra is the new president of the Indian Olympic Association after the IOA, going according to script, elected the 59-year-old unopposed at its annual general body meeting (AGM) held here Thursday. The election of Batra, who is also president of the International Hockey Federation (FIH), was a mere formality after Asian Tennis Federation president Anil Khanna withdrew from the race last week.

IOA grants recognition to BFI
NEW DELHI: After months of dilly-dallying, the Indian Olympic Association has finally recognised the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) as the national body governing the sport in India. Though the BFI was recognised by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) and the Sports Ministry more than a year ago after elections conducted in September 2016, the IOA's nod came only on Wednesday.

Nanavati new vice chair of FINA panel
MUMBAI: Swimming Federation of India CEO Virendra Nanavati has been appointed vice chairman of the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) swimming committee. Nanavati is also senior vice president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).   "It is a matter of pride for me as an Indian would carry such a big responsibility in FINA," Nanavati told PTI.
