NEW DELHI: The most powerful cricket body in the world has yet again been forced to eat humble pie after falling at the wrong end of the stick on the legal front. Needless to say, it is a seriously expensive pie. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly ready to cough up compensation of over Rs8 billion to IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala for terminating its contract in 2011, a massive mark-up on the Rs3 billion the team's promoters were initially willing to settle for.

MUMBAI: The Indian Premier League (IPL), cash cow for the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has also contributed considerably to the national exchequer. The BCCI has paid Rs 35 billion in taxes to the Income Tax department since IPL's inception in 2008, The Times of India reports.

MUMBAI: The world's richest cricketing body by a long mile faced the ignonimity of seeing its official website — http://www.bcci.tv — suspended for well over 18 hours Sunday for failing to renew the domain name. Adding to the board’s embarrassment, seven bids ranging from $69 to $260 had sprung up for the domain name after domain registrars Register.com and Namejet.com put the website up for public bidding.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday sought the BCCI's response on a plea by former cricketer S. Sreesanth challenging a life time ban on him by the apex cricketing body in the wake of an alleged spot fixing scandal. Issuing the notice, a bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice DY Chandrachud gave the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) four weeks to respond.
