NEW DELHI: The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has written to the Badminton World Federation (BWF), expressing its interest to host the Sudirman Cup finals this year.

India was scheduled to host the mixed team championship in 2023, but the BWF awarded the rights to Suzhou, China, while giving the 2026 World Championships to India.

Suzhou was due to host the championships in 2021 but, due to the COVID-19 situation in China, the BWF was not able to stage any tournaments in the country and the event was shifted to Vantaa in Finland.

NEW DELHI: The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has announced a cash award of Rs 5,00,000 for Kidambi Srikanth on his win at the Denmark Open, clinching his third Super Series Premier title. Srikanth beat South Korea's Lee Hyun II 21 -10 21-5 to clinch the title at the $750,000 Super Series event on Sunday.

BENGALURU: Badminton Association of India president Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that players will be put through tests before the start of the season to tackle the problem of overage players. "This will eliminate any unnecessary issues from coming to the fore during a tournament,” Sarma told the Deccan Herald on the eve of the departure of Indian teams for the Badminton Asia Junior Championships.

MUMBAI: The franchisee agreements for forming of the two new teams in the Premier Badminton League from the 2017-18 season have been  concluded. The first agreement was executed on 21 September in Ahmedabad while the second was signed in Guwahati on 25 September.

MUMBAI: The players auction for the next edition of the Vodafone Premier Badminton League (PBL), being organised by Sportzlive under the aegis of Badminton Association of India (BAI), will be held on October 9 in Hyderabad.  PBL's fourth edition, which will run from December 22 to January 14, 2018, offers a prize purse of Rs30 million to the winning franchise, a senior BAI official told The Hindu.
