JAKARTA: It was a mixed day for India on Day two of the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia Sunday. A dominating Bajrang Punia opened India's Gold medal account by defeating Japan's Daichi Takatani 11-8 in the final of Men's Freestyle 65 kg category.

Bajrang also won gold in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

The Indian Express describes Bajrang as "India’s fastest, most powerful and focussed grappler at the moment. His fitness has been a revelation over the past few seasons, something that keeps him in the game until the last second".

Bajrang, top-ranked in Jakarta, was lined up against a rival who had beaten him in the Asian Championship — which had the same set of grapplers as here.

The victory brought relief to the Indian camp after the early exit of star wrestler Sushil Kumar who lost his qualification bout 3-5 to Bahrain's Adam Batirov in the 74 kg category.

The first Silver medal for Team India was won by Deepak Kumar in the Men's 10m Air Rifle Finals event. India opened its medal account  with a Bronze by Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar in rifle mixed team shooting event.
