MUMBAI: Star India is launching a new sports channel - Star Sports 1 Kannada - on 16 November.

The launch of the new channel has been timed to coincide with the fourth season of the Indian Super League (ISL) that kicks off on 17 November. The channel will air India cricket matches and local leagues like Pro Kabaddi, ISL and Karnataka Premier League (KPL). The broadcaster is also understood to be in the process of acquiring local properties for the new channel.

Star Sports 1 Kannada will replace Star's Hindi music channel, Channel V, which will be discontinued from the same date. “The viewers are informed that “Channel V” will be available as “Star Sports 1 Kannada” with effect from November 16, 2017,” says a Star India statement.

Star Sports 3 was the broadcaster's first regional sports channel that launched in 2013. It was re-branded Star Sports 1 Hindi in May. Star Sports 1 Tamil was launched on 28 May.  In May, Star also launched Star Sports Select 1 and 2 by discontinuing Star Sports HD 4 and FX.
