The 18th season of the TATA Indian Premier League, which will kick off on Saturday, March 22, at Kolkata's Eden Gardens, is reportedly geared up for a musical extravaganza for the IPL 2025 opening ceremony.
The ceremony, which will begin at 6:00 pm IST, promises to be a grand celebration that will set the tone for the rest of the tournament.
While there has been no official announcement as yet from the IPL governing council on the matter, per reports Bollywood playback singer Shreya Ghoshal, actor Disha Patani, and Punjabi pop singer Karan Aujla will be performing at the opening ceremony. It bears noting that earlier reports had said the star-studded lineup of performers at the opening ceremony would include Bollywood actors Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Dhawan.
Last season, actors Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, and singers Sonu Nigam and AR Rahman were the key performers at IPL. Renowned Swedish DJ and record producer DJ Axwell also performed during the mid-innings break.
While details about the performers remain unconfirmed, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly has assured that it will be a grand affair. Ganguly said the time slot for the IPL opening ceremony has been set at 25 minutes, ensuring a concise yet entertaining prelude to the match.
Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening fixture of IPL 2025, with the match scheduled to start at 7:30 pm IST.
