KOLKATA: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has written to the Indian Football Association (IFA) seeking a probe into an allegation of foul play in the Calcutta Football league match last month between Tollygunge Agragami and Rainbow club.
The AIFF alleges that the result of the match, won by Tollygunge Agragami and played on East Bengal ground on 25 August may have been contrived. IFA secretary Utpal Ganguli has reportedly said he would probe the charge.
"We received a letter from Sportradar Integrity Service, a match fixing investigating agency attached to FIFA, saying the result of a match in the ongoing CFL looked fixed as per the international betting trend. We have requested the IFA to look into the matter," AIFF general secretary Kushal Das told Calcutta Telegraph.
"It is definitely a matter of concern if international betting rackets are trying to influence Indian football results," Das said. "I am confident strict actions would be taken by IFA if at all anything is wrong in it," he added.
Sportradar Integrity Service, which has an agreement with FIFA to use its fraud detection system (FDS) to identify and analyse suspicious betting activity across a number of international and domestic football competitions, reportedly had prior information that the result would go in Tollygunge's favour.
The Calcutta Football League, founded in 1898 is the oldest in Asia, and is the only local league in India that is televised.
