NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry, faced with the less than flattering optics around the country's top wrestlers resuming their sit-in protest here on Sunday in the wake of the apathetic handling of their grievances, on Monday cancelled the elections of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), that were scheduled for May 7. 

The ministry further directed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to constitute an ad-hoc committee to conduct the polls within 45 days of its formation and also manage day-to-day affairs of the WFI.

NEW DELHI: Days after the Union Sports Ministry granted recognition to 41 National Sports Federations (NSFs), sports lawyer Rahul Mehra has approached Delhi High Court to quash those decisions arguing that the National Sports Development Code (2011) has been violated, reports New Indian Express.

NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry has decided to grant recognition to 27 national sports federations, according to an affidavit it has filed before the Delhi High Court, reports PTI. According to the affidavit, 13 NSFs, including athletics, boxing and golf, have been told to hold elections of their office bearers before the end of this year.

NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry has conveyed its decision to grant annual recognition to 12 more National Sports Federations (NSF) through an affidavit to the Delhi High Court on Monday, reports the New Indian Express. This is in addition to the 18 NSFs it had decided to give recognition to earlier.

NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry is set to upgrade eight Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) at an estimated cost of Rs 951.9 million with an aim to identify and groom future Olympic champions.  Eight states that have been approved for setting up of KISCEs in the first leg are Odisha, Mizoram, Telengana, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala.

NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry and the Indian Olympic Association stated on Tuesday that they have decided to approach the Supreme Court to challenge a Delhi High Court order which prohibits the ministry from taking any decision on grant of recognition to national federations.
