NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry, faced with the less than flattering optics around the country's top wrestlers resuming their sit-in protest here on Sunday in the wake of the apathetic handling of their grievances, on Monday cancelled the elections of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), that were scheduled for May 7. 

The ministry further directed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to constitute an ad-hoc committee to conduct the polls within 45 days of its formation and also manage day-to-day affairs of the WFI.

ITANAGAR: The Youth Affairs & Sports Ministry has granted formal recognition to WAKO India Kickboxing Federation as a national sports federation for promotion and development of kickboxing. The recognition was granted on 2 July.

NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry on Tuesday dedicated a total of 143 Khelo India Centres across seven states with a total budget estimate of Rs 143 million. These centres will be entrusted with one sports discipline each. The states include Maharashtra, Mizoram, Goa, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.

L Siddhartha Singh, Joint Secretary in the Sports Ministry, in a circular accessed by PTI, informed that the government has decided to add the relaxation clause provision in the National Sports Code 2011.
