NEW DELHI: The All India Football Federation has announced plans to expand women’s football, and introduce an under-17 women’s league. “We are shortly introducing an under-17 women’s league in India in association with the Sports Authority of India,” AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey said during a media interaction in Kolkata on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: In an outcome that was pre-ordained, the All India Football Federation on Friday elected BJP politician Kalyan Chaubey as president, the first former player to head the AIFF in its 85-year history.  Chaubey, who played as a goalkeeper, won 33-1 in a straight contest against the legendary Bhaichung Bhutia.

Kalyan Chaubey, a former goalkeeper and now BJP leader from Bengal, is reportedly the frontrunner to succeed Praful Patel as president of the All India Football Federation in elections due on September 2. Telegraph India reports that Chaubey's nomination for the top post, which was filed from Gujarat and seconded by Arunachal Pradesh, will be uncontested.
