NEW YORK: U.S. Soccer (USSF) and the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) players Tuesday announced an agreement to resolve a six-year legal battle over equal pay.
The deal will see US women soccer players split $22 million plus bonuses that match those of their male counterparts.
The compensation agreed is about one-third of what they had sought in damages, CBS Sports reports.
The USSF also agreed to establish a fund with $2 million to benefit the players in their post-soccer careers and charitable efforts aimed at growing the sport for women.
