MUMBAI: Virat Kohli has hit another social media milestone, becoming the first cricketer to reach 50 million followers on micro-blogging social media platform Twitter.

His recent increase in popularity places him alongside five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo and NBA star LeBron James as among the only sportspersons who have 50 million or more followers on Twitter. Ronaldo, who is the most followed athlete across all social media platforms, has over 103 million followers on Twitter. Meanwhile, James has over 52 million followers on the microblogging website.

MUMBAI: Social media giant Twitter has announced that it will be simplifying watching live streams for its users by making them appear at the very top of their timelines. These will include accounts of personalities, any breaking news or sporting events.

MUMBAI: Trending hashtags and viral posts have resulted in the Indian Premier League (IPL) recording nearly 10 million social media mentions, moneycontrol.com reports.  The  return of Chennai Super Kings in particular, and Rajasthan Royals as well, have helped the tournament gain more popularity on social media than the previous season in which 6.2 million social media mentions were recorded.
