IMPHAL: The All India Football Federation on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of Manipur to create world-class footballing facilities in the state.

The MoU was signed ahead of the Hero Tri-Nation International Football Tournament’s deciding encounter between the Kyrgyz Republic and India (the home team won 2-0) at the Khuman Lampak Stadium in Imphal.

NEW DELHI: The Rajya Sabha (Upper House of Parliament) Thursday passed the National Sports University Bill, 2018, paving the way for the formation of the country’s first ever National Sports University in Manipur. The Bill, which was passed by a voice vote in the Upper House, was adopted by the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Parliament) on August 3.

NEW DELHI: The Narendra Modi-led Union cabinet on Wednesday approved an ordinance that permits the setting up of India’s first national sports University in Manipur, IANS reports. The university is said to cost Rs 5.24 billion and the campus will be spread over 325 acres in the Imphal West district.

NEW DELHI: Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore on Thursday said his ministry is actively considering setting up a world class football academy in Manipur in collaboration with the state government. Rathore said this while interacting with a group of students from Manipur aged between 11 and 16 years who are currently on a National Integration Tour organised by Assam Rifles, a newswire PTI report said.

IMPHAL, Manipur: In view of the proposed visit by Narendra Modi to Manipur next month and the state government’s plan to get the district sports complexes inaugurated by the Prime Minister, the chief secretary has instructed the officials concerned to finish the construction work of the district sports complexes by March 10.
