NEW DELHI: The CBI has registered a preliminary enquiry against Narinder Batra, president of the Indian Olympic Association president as well as International Hockey Federation (FIH). 

The Central probe agency is investigating a complaint that Batra misused all of (emphasis ours) Rs 3.5 million of Hockey India's funds for personal benefits. While it is for the CBI to decide on the veracity of said allegations, there is no getting away from the fact that the figures in question would be "small change" for Batra, who is indeed a very wealthy man.

BHOPAL: The 12th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2022 will begin in Bhopal from Wednesday.  The 12-day tournament will witness 28 teams vie for top honours. In its previous edition, the tournament was won by Hockey Punjab after they beat Uttar Pradesh in a thrilling shootout while Karnataka finished third having beaten Maharashtra 5-2 in the third/fourth placing match.

GWALIOR: The stage is set for the top academies to compete for the title as the 2nd Hockey India Junior Women Academy National Championship 2022 is scheduled to begin in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh from Wednesday.  18 teams will compete in the tournament starting Wednesday, with the final to be played on April 16.

NEW DELHI: Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Sunday criticised Hockey India for unilaterally declaring it would not field men's and women's teams at next year's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, saying the national federation is bound to consult with the government before taking any such step.
