NEW DELHI: Former India captain Dilip Tirkey, who was the front-runner for the post of Hockey India president, was elected unopposed for the top job on Friday. 

Hockey India elections were scheduled to be held on October 1 but the results were declared in advance as there were no contestants for any of the posts, paving the way for the incumbent candidates to be elected unopposed as per the federation's constitution.

NEW DELHI: Former India captain Dilip Tirkey, one of the most-capped India internationals, on Sunday filed his nomination for the post of Hockey India (HI) president. Sunday was the last date for filing nomination papers. The 44-year-old player-turned-politician and administrator is reportedly the frontrunner in the race to head the national hockey governing body.

NEW DELHI: The Committee of Administrators currently running Hockey India has appointed the returning officer and assistant returning officer for the conduct of the upcoming elections. Ajay Nayak, former Chief Electoral Officer, Government of Bihar, will be assuming the position of returning officer. Additionally, AK Majumdar has been appointed as the assistant returning officer.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday, while decliningd to interfere with a Delhi High Court order, which placed Hockey India under a three-member Committee of Administrators, asked the CoA to take steps in connection with modifying the constitution, so that executive body elections could be expedited.

NEW DELHI: Twenty weeks? Seriously? The International Hockey Federation (not surprisingly) stated on Tuesday that it is not satisfied with the reply of the Committee of Administrators governing Hockey India, to their previous letter and "cannot accept the turnaround time of 20 weeks" for adopting a new Constitution and put in place a duly recognised and democratically-elected board.

MUMBAI: What is the common factor between Hockey India and the All India Football Federation? The principals assigned by the judiciary to administer the two national sports bodies are the same - Justice (Retd.) Anil Dave and former CEC SY Quraishi. It is also no coincidence that the world bodies running hockey and football respectively - FIH and FIFA - have serious issues with the way HI and AIFF are being managed.

NEW DELHI: Veteran sports administrator Narinder Batra on Monday resigned as president of International Hockey Federation (FIH) with immediate effect and also gave up his membership of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In three separate letters, Batra officially tendered his resignations from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), IOC and FIH respectively.
