LAUSANNE: The International Boxing Association has appointed Boxing Federation of India president Ajay Singh as an IBA vice-president. 

IBA's board of directors confirmed the appointment at its meeting convened on March 25 in New Delhi on the sidelines of the recently concluded IBA Women's World Boxing Championships. 

Singh is also chairman and managing director of SpiceJet and associate vice-president of the Indian Olympic Committee.

NEW DELHI: Former world and Asian champion L Sarita Devi was Wednesday elected women's representative of women boxers in the Boxing Federation of India’s executive council. Sarita, who won a Bronze medal at the Asian Championships last year, was voted in by 22 of the 31 team captains at the election conducted during the ongoing national championships in Rohtak, PTI reports.

NEW DELHI: India will host its first-ever major boxing tournament for elite men and women - the India Open International Boxing Tournament - from 28 January 2018 in New Delhi.  The country will also host the Senior Men’s World Championships in 2021, Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore announced on Friday.

NEW DELHI: After months of dilly-dallying, the Indian Olympic Association has finally recognised the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) as the national body governing the sport in India. Though the BFI was recognised by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) and the Sports Ministry more than a year ago after elections conducted in September 2016, the IOA's nod came only on Wednesday.
