NEW DELHI: Due to the upsurge of COVID-19 cases in India, the Asian Boxing Confederation is set to scrap the Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships, originally scheduled from May 21 to 31 in the Indian capital, one of the virus hotbeds in the country.

The event, scheduled to be held here at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Sports Complex, was first postponed in 2020 due to the pandemic. The tournament was supposed to draw boxers from 32 countries and was to be the first ring competition for Asia in 2021.

NEW DELHI: The Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) has confirmed that the Asian Boxing Championships, which had been allotted to New Delhi and was supposed to be held last year in November and December but shelved due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will now take place from May 21 to May 31.

NEW DELHI: India's Kishen Narsi has been appointed as the chairman of Asian Boxing Confederation's Competitions Commission. ASBC president Anas Naser Al Otaiba confirmed the development through a letter addressed to Narsi.

BANGKOK: Boxing Federation of India (BFI) secretary general Jay Kowli has been elected to the executive committee of the Asian Boxing Confederation at the ASBC Congress held here Wednesday. Kowli polled 23 votes out of a total 36 Asian countries attending the event, PTI reports. The ASBC EC comprises 16 members in all and India was being represented by BFI president Ajay Singh for the past two years.

BANGKOK: The Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) has officially confirmed that the Asian Boxing Championships in 2019 will witness the men’s and women’s events being hosted simultaneously in the Thai capital city from 19-27 April. Bangkok’s Huamark Indoor Stadium will be the venue, which can attract 6000 fans at the maximum.
