LAUSANNE: The International Boxing Association (AIBA) Extraordinary Congress Monday ushered in a new era for the sport as the federation changed its acronym from AIBA to IBA, while adopting a comprehensive set of governance reforms developed by independent experts. 

A total of 107 of IBA’s national federations were in attendance to approve these wide-spread changes.

LAUSANNE: The AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, which was scheduled to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from the 6th to 19th of December, has been postponed to March 2022. AIBA stated that while it had been working hard to maintain the schedule of this event, the feedback received was that too many national federations were facing difficult situations and restrictions within their countries.

LAUSANNE: More than 600 boxers from 105 countries are set to fight it out in the 2021 Men’s World Boxing Championships to be held in Belgrade, Serbia where Gold winners will walk away with a prize money of $100,000.

LAUSANNE: AIBA confirmed Saturday that the Women’s World Boxing Championships will take place in the city of Istanbul, Turkey.  During the official visit of AIBA president Umar Kremlev to Istanbul, an agreement was signed between boxing's world governing body and the Turkish Boxing Federation (TBF). Dates are considered as early December.

LAUSANNE: Spectators will be allowed at next month's 2021 Men’s World Boxing Championships in Serbia, the International Boxing Association (AIBA) announced on Monday, making it the first major event in the sport to welcome back fans since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

LAUSANNE: For the first time in AIBA’s 75-year history, medal winners at the forthcoming Men’s World Boxing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia will be rewarded with significant prize money from AIBA. The prize money fund has been set at $2.6 million. The prize for first place is $100,000. Silver medalists receive $50,000, and both Bronzes in each weight category receive $25,000.

LAUSANNE: The International Boxing Association on Monday said it has retained McLaren Sport Solution (MGSS), led by Professor Richard McLaren, to conduct a two-phase independent investigation into allgations of unfair refereeing and judging at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. AIBA expects the first phase of the probe to be completed by August.

LAUSANNE: AIBA has ordered an "immediate investigation" into judging decisions of certain bouts at the Asian Boxing Championships held in Dubai.  India was amomg the countries that had sought reviews of controversial decisions made during the course of the tournament.

LAUSANNE: The International Boxing Association board of directors declared Wednesday that it has settled its longstanding $10 million debt to Azerbaijani company Benkons LLC and the other ones.
