BWF postpones Thomas & Uber Cup finals, continental c'ships

LAUSANNE: The BWF announced Friday that the TOTAL BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals and the BWF Members’ Forum and AGM 2020, which were due to be hosted in Aarhus, Denmark, have been postponed till August due to the unprecedented global COVID-19 situation.

The Thomas & Uber Cup Finals were scheduled for 16-24 May and during the same period, the BWF Members’ Forum and AGM 2020 were scheduled to take place on 21 and 22 May 2020.

The Thomas & Uber Cup Finals and Members’ Forum & AGM are being moved forward three months from May to August and will continue to be hosted in Aarhus, Denmark.

The dates for the Thomas & Uber Cup Finals will be hosted 15 to 23 August, and the same pattern for the week will be maintained for Forum & AGM – 1) Thursday – the Members’ Forum, 2) Thursday night – the Delegates Dinner and 3) Friday – the AGM.

In a related development, the BWF suspended three continental championships.

"The decision to suspend these three CC championships was made in close consultation and agreement with Badminton Asia, Badminton Europe and Badminton Pan Am taking into account the health, safety and wellbeing of participants during this extraordinary time," the BWF stated.

XXIV Pan Am Individual Championships 2020 – 23–26 April 2020, Lima Peru

Further to the three Continental Championships above, these last two tournaments for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Qualifying Period have also been suspended.

The BWF said it was working closely with Member Associations and Continental Confederations on possible new dates for tournament hosts who wish to still have their tournaments on different dates at a later time in 2020.
