AIFF to table bid for 2023 Asian Cup: Report

MUMBAI: Following up on its decision to bid for for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has reportedly set its sights on moving up from the junior ranks and tabling a bid to host the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

The decision to put forward a bid was taken during a meeting of the AIFF's executive committee here on Saturday, a senior member of the AIFF told Goal.com. 

The country is currently playing host to its first FIFA tournament - the U-17 World Cup - which kicked off Friday. 

With the infrastructure and facilities already upgraded to host the U-17 World Cup, the AIFF is now convinced that hosting big ticket tournaments is a good way to boost India's footballing profile and boost interest for the game in the country. 

According to Goal, India will find the going much tougher to win the bid in the case of Asian Cup as South Korea (a footballing powerhouse in the continent) and China have also expressed their interest in hosting the 2023 edition.
