An episode of Olympic Channel's original series, Playing Fields, has been nominated for a Sports Emmy.

The six-part documentary is an inspirational series which showcases a new generation of African athletes, each with their tragedies and triumphs, struggles and strengths, hopes and dreams to excel in their sport and reveal the inner truth of what makes an Olympic hero.

Episode six, “Ornella: Knocking down social prejudices pursuing her Olympic dream”, has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Long Feature category.

LAUSANNE: The postponed Tokyo Olympic Games will go ahead next year "with or without COVID", the vice-president of the International Olympic Committee has asserted. John Coates confirmed to news agency AFP that the Olympics would start on 23 July next year, calling them the "Games that conquered COVID". They were originally scheduled to start in July 2020, but were postponed due to Covid-19 fears.

LAUSANNE: The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Monday welcomed the addition of The Coca-Cola Company to its roster of Worldwide Paralympic Partners. Coca-Cola Japan was an existing Gold Partner of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, the highest tier of the domestic sponsorship programme.

NEW DELHI: Indian sports management company IOS Sports & Entertainment on Friday announced the signing of young javelin sensation Shivpal Singh. The 24-year-old grabbed headlines earlier this year when he became only the second javelin thrower to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. He met the qualifying standard with an 85.47m throw at the ACNW Meeting in Potchefstroom in March.

NEW DELHI: The Sports Authority of India (SAI) on Wednesday shortlisted 258 athletes from across 12 sporting disciplines and they will be a part of the TOPS Developmental Group. This is a step towards grooming athletes for the 2024 and 2028 Olympics and the athletes have been shortlisted by SAI's Mission Olympic Cell, including the 85 selected before the lockdown.
