That the popularity of football is increasing year-on-year in India is evident from the fact that the sport attracted 60% more audiences in a span of five years from 2005-2009, according to a Tam Sports study titled ‘Football- consumption by the Indian television audience’.

IFF 2010 - When it comes to viewership, the best that the ONGC I-League and Kolkata Derby have to offer still rate better. This is of little help to AIFF's host broadcaster Ten Sports when it comes to hawking ad inventory because there is no fixed annual calendar and no regular television viewer friendly kick-off times.

What was refreshing was that the panellists decided to abandon the griping of "cricket is eating us away" and tried to look within: what is that football needs to do to become more attractive to the moneybags.
